What to Look For in a Heavy Haul Carrier

August 11, 2026 · 5 min read

On ordinary freight, the lowest quote is often a reasonable choice. On oversized and overweight equipment, the quote is only as good as the plan behind it — and the plan is what you should be assessing.

Ask what the quote assumes

A price built on guessed dimensions, an unspecified route, or an assumption that a machine runs and can be driven on will change once reality arrives. A carrier that states its assumptions is giving you something you can compare; a bare number is not.

Ask who plans the load

Find out whether the person quoting has looked at the equipment specifications, or whether the request has simply been passed along. Load planning is where oversized moves succeed or fail: securement for the centre of gravity, routing for height and width, and access at both ends.

Ask how site access is handled

A carrier that asks you about gate widths, ground conditions, turning room and loading method is planning the move. One that never raises the subject will discover the problem with a loaded trailer parked outside your gate.

Ask how you will be kept informed

Permitted loads travel in restricted windows and are genuinely affected by weather and curfews. What matters is not a promise that nothing will change, but a clear answer on who tells you when it does, and how quickly.

Be wary of what cannot be evidenced

Treat unverifiable claims with the same caution you would in any other purchase. Ask instead for specifics about your load: which trailer, which route type, what authorisations it needs, and what would change the price.

That is the conversation we prefer to have. Send the specifications and we will tell you what your move actually requires.
